Trump sees his former supporter Musk as nothing more than a "train wreck." Musk's new party, the US president fumes, is bringing destruction and chaos to the United States.
Donald Trump has sharply attacked his former confidant Elon Musk after Musk announced the formation of a new political party, the America Party. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called Musk a "train wreck." In a figurative sense, this refers to someone who can't get their life together, a "loser."
Trump also commented on Musk's never questioning the elimination of subsidies for electric vehicles. Trump also criticized Musk's recommendation to lead NASA and questioned potential conflicts of interest due to Musk's corporate holdings . Newsweek also reports that Trump also questions Musk's past support for Republican causes.
Billionaire and long-time owner of the NBA club Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, and the short-term White House communications chief, Anthony Scaramucci, have already expressed interest in Musk's new party.
Trump supporters like Roger Stone and Steve Bannon, on the other hand, were embarrassed. According to Newsweek, Musk's initiative is viewed with particular skepticism, partly because, as a foreign-born citizen who only became a U.S. citizen in 2002, he might face additional challenges in founding a party in the U.S.
Elon Musk's response was not long in coming: "That fat, drunken lout named Bannon is going back to prison, and this time for a long time. He has a lifetime to pay for his crimes." A reference to Bannon's four-month imprisonment last year .
By founding the "America Party," Musk aims to break the "one-party system" in the US and, as he puts it, "give citizens back their freedom." The Tesla CEO is particularly critical of Trump's celebrated "One Big Beautiful Bill," calling it the "DEBT SLAVERY bill." With his new party, Musk aims to combat the national debt in the 2026 midterm elections and block legislative proposals that would further increase it.
According to Braml, Musk also faces a credibility problem because his companies benefit from government subsidies. Trump could therefore use Musk's lack of political experience to further solidify his support among the working class and threaten to lose these subsidies.
